Writers have always been a strong reference for my body movements, images and therefore, for my choreographic pieces. It is probably with writers like Beckett, Faulkner, Proust or Michaux and Kafka of course, that I learnt most about movement.
‘The Burrows’ by Kafka was at the original of my proposal to Isabelle Schad to experience the connection between the inner space of the body and the outer space around it. Hence the phrase “on both sides of the skin.” Large pieces of fabric are at the same time landscapes, costume and a shelter.
And ‘Stop Being One’ with Marika Rizzi and Jitti Chompee is the continuation of this work; going one step ahead in building a space totally organized by the body, since the string sculpture is organically shaped by following the moving bodies inside.
