In “Hard to Be a God” the spectators observe the performance through a glass window that separates the action from their own (protected) body, as if it was a screen, framing the exterior action. The performance reflects the body’s techniques of disappearance, as camouflage or concealment, that dominate contemporary life. What is happening today is the disappearance of the place and the individual at the same time. But what is really happening? The disappearance of the individual within his own body? Or the dissimulation of the body through the disappearance of the individual? A fight between nature – in all its splendor – and technology.
